Superintendent's Message

Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year! It is with great excitement and a deep sense of honor that I begin my service as Superintendent of Schools for the Opp City School System. I am especially thankful to the Board of Education for entrusting me with this great honor and for the confidence they have placed in me to serve our schools and community.

For twenty-five years, education has been my calling. I have had the privilege of serving as a classroom teacher—guiding students through U.S. History I and II, AP U.S. History, World History, and Driver’s Education. I have also served as a head football coach and athletic director, Assistant Principal, Principal, and now Superintendent. Each of these roles has reinforced a simple truth: our greatest work is always in service to students, faculty, staff, and the families who trust us with their children’s futures.

Leading Opp City Schools is a significant responsibility. I am committed to approaching it as a  leader who listens carefully, collaborates openly, and works tirelessly every day to strengthen our schools. Together, we will focus on high expectations, meaningful support for our educators, and opportunities that prepare every student for success.

Our Vision for This Year

“A Community of Infinite Possibilities,” we will focus on four key priorities this year:

First, Academic Excellence — raising achievement while supporting every learner.

Second, Innovation & Opportunity — expanding career tech, advanced courses, and modern learning tools.

Third, Whole Child Support — focusing on wellness, character, and belonging.

And fourth, Community Engagement — deepening partnerships with our families and local businesses right here in Opp.

I am grateful for the confidence placed in me and look forward to serving alongside our dedicated team and community. Together, we will continue building a school system that reflects the very best of Opp.

With respect and commitment,

Matt Blake
