Opp City Schools Mental Wellness Programs

Opp City Schools (OCS) has implemented a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) as part of the OCS Mental Wellness Program Plan. This framework outlines a comprehensive system of mental health interventions, supports and strategies that are organized across three tiers - Tier I (universal), Tier II (targeted), and Tier III (intensive). For each tier, the implementation of strategies and interventions will be regularly evaluated to determine their effectiveness and to assess when a student may need to transition to a different level of support. Mental Health Service Coordinators, also referred to as "Wellness Coaches", are responsible for carrying out and overseeing the full implementation of the Mental Wellness Plan, including coordinating services, monitoring progress, and ensuring consistency across the district. The key objectives of the Mental Wellness Program are to:

  • Provide a systematic approach to supporting mental wellness.
  • Establish a structured plan that addresses each school's individual needs.
  • Identify and apply district-wide interventions and supports that promote student mental health and well-being.
  • Ensure a clear process for evaluating each tier and determining appropriate next steps within the MTSS framework.

What is a Wellness Coach?

The services wellness coaches provide are designed to empower students and their families by providing them with education and resources that will benefit their overall wellbeing. These services include classroom SEL lessons, support groups, short term counseling, crisis intervention, support meetings, and referrals to outside services.
